Own a home or property near a stream? Local class focuses on waterway protection

If you own a home or property near a stream or wetland, the Edmonds Backyard Wildlife Habitat is presenting a free four-week course aimed at educating the streamside landowner on how they best manage their property to protect area waterways. The course will be on four Thursday evenings, April 7-28 at the Willow Creek Hatchery, 95 Pine St.

Among the topics covered: watershed awareness, monitoring and restoration efforts property owners can use, laws and ordinances around streams and wetlands, basic  juvenile salmon identification, wildlife habitat needs, and proper planting and landscaping needs for streamside living.

The course will include two streamside and wetland site visits along with a site visit to local rain garden on two Saturdays, one in April and the other in May.
