Edmonds police arrest would-be burglar after struggle with homeowner

A 25-year-old Edmonds man was taken into police custody Thursday after he tried to kick in the door of a residence in the 1300 block of 6th Place South in downtown Edmonds and fled following a struggle with the homeowner inside.

Edmonds police responded to the neighborhood at 11:26 a.m. when a resident reported seeing a man lurking around two homes on 6th Place South. The suspect finally went to a third home, where he attempted to kick in the front door. However, the 35-year old homeowner was present inside the residence, so he confronted the would-be burglar, police said. A struggled ensued between the victim and suspect before the man fled on foot, leaving his backpack and hat behind.

Edmonds officers obtained a detailed description of the fleeing suspect and then began their search for him. A Lynnwood Police K-9 unit also responded to assist. The suspect was located in the 9700 block of Edmonds Way where he was taken into custody, police said.
