Edmonds-Woodway High student named Youth Ambassador to Brazil

Katherine Venables
Edmonds-Woodway High School junior Katherine Venables has been selected as a 2011 U.S. Youth Ambassador to Brazil. The announcement was made by World Learning, in consultation with the Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia.

Venables will be one of 13 students serving as an ambassador during a trip to Brazil from July 30-Aug. 20.  The ambassadors and the adult mentor accompanying them were selected through a competitive application process. During their trip, they will be hosted by volunteer families, visit schools, give presentations about the U.S., and develop a project on social justice and volunteerism.

  1. This will be a very good experience for the students. I traveled to Brazil on business over a period of 22 years. I’m reminded of a saying that “Brazil is the country of the future and always will be”. It appears like that was not an accurate statement, as Brazil’s economy seems to now be on a fast track.
