Snohomish County PUD has money for local solar projects

Snohomish County Public Utility District is seeking proposals from local organizations for solar energy demonstration projects to be installed on new or existing buildings in the utility’s service area. Proposals are due on May 20.

“We’re excited to help the community learn more about solar energy through small-scale demonstration projects,” said Snohomish County PUD General Manager Steve Klein. “These projects are part of a larger commitment to development of local renewable energy sources right here in Western Washington.”

The PUD expects to award grants for up to eight solar projects this year. The demonstration projects will be funded through customer contributions made to Planet Power, a voluntary PUD green energy program with almost 3,000 participants. To date, 10 solar demonstration projects have been completed under the program; Planet Power also has supported solar energy curriculum at several local schools.

Interested organizations can get more details from the PUD.  Specific questions can be directed to Doris Abravanel at 425-783-1731.

The PUD expects projects to be installed this summer and fall.
