Reminder: Open house Tuesday for Five Corners/Westgate design concepts

The City of Edmonds and the Edmonds Economic Development Commission are helping lead the planning for changes to the Westgate and Five Corners neighborhood centers, and they are asking Edmonds residents to provide their ideas for how they’d like the centers to look. Come to a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, in the Plaza Room above the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St., where you can:

– Find out about design concepts developed by the University of Washington teams in response to the public design workshop held in March.
– Learn about how final designs could be implemented, the next steps in the process, and how you can be involved.

Sponsored by the City of Edmonds Economic Development Commission in collaboration with the University of Washington Green Futures Lab and the Cascade Land Conservancy, this is the latest in a series of planning meetings for the Five Corners and Westgate neighborhood commercial areas.

  1. Speaking of Westgate, does anybody know if Ace Hardware considered moving into the old “Stupid Prices” space across the street from McDonald’s? It looks to me like a perfect spot for a hardware store.

  2. Joe:

I’m told that ACE considered all available spaces. The Stupid Prices building was occupied for many years by Coast to Coast Hardware. They couldn’t make it there, and they also had a pharmacy. The “For Lease” signs have been gone from the windows for a few months, so perhaps there’s already a new tenant slated for there.

  3. It seems like they both closed around the same time – could have been a couple of years in between the closings.
