Coming Saturday: Edmonds dentist to offer free care

Edmonds Woodway Dental Care will open the practice to those who cannot afford regular dental care during its Third Annual Day of Caring on Saturday, July 30. Free dental service will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the clinic, located at 21810 76th Ave. W., Suite 102.

“The Day of Caring has proven to be a great way to help take care of our neighbors,” said Dr. Michael Hrankowski of Edmonds Woodway Dental Care. Last year, doctors provided treatment to 37 people on the Day of Caring, he noted.

Hrankowski said treatment would be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to people in pain or with infections.

“To accommodate as many people as possible, we will provide only procedures that can be accomplished in one appointment and there is a limit of one procedure per person,” Hrankowski said. The types of procedures that can be done in one appointment include extractions, fillings and other symptomatic treatment. No root canal treatments or cleanings will be performed.

To serve more people, Hrankowski has recruited three other dentists for the event: Dr. Roy Carlson of Edmonds, Dr. Brian Dillon of Redmond, and Dr. Ken Huff of Portland, Ore. Colgate and Patterson Dental Supply Company are providing supplies and additional equipment for the Day of Caring.

Due to the expected demand, the doctors can’t guarantee that everyone who shows up will be seen. “Come early for best chance at being seen, but please, not before 6 a.m.,” Dr. Hrankowski said.

Dr. Hrankowski is also seeking the assistance of an Edmonds-area restaurant or caterer to participate in the event by donating 12 lunch meals for the volunteer doctors and staff.
