Woman chasing ducks causes crash on I-5

This event occurred on I-5 in nearby Lynnwood, but if anyone from Edmonds was caught in nasty I-5 backups Tuesday night, here’s why, according to our friends at Lynnwood Today:

The State Patrol says a well-intentioned woman caused a crash that tangled traffic on I-5 around 7:15 last night.

Troopers say the woman saw some ducks and ducklings on the side of southbound I-5 near 44th. She parked on the right shoulder, began chasing the ducks and tried to get cars to stop while walking  in the right lane.

A semi truck managed to avoid her, but struck her parked car, jackknifed, then sideswiped another car.  No one was hurt.

“As much as we all love animals, citizens should not stop and attempt to corral animals on the freeway,” Trooper Keith Leary said.

Leary said at least two of the ducks were killed.

“This could have easily been a fatal collision if the semi or other cars would have hit the female at freeway speeds,” he added.

The woman faces possible charges of disorderly conduct.

All lanes were reopened by 10 p.m.
