Edmonds School Board Director candidate District 5: Diana White

As part of our continuing Election 2011 coverage, My Edmonds News presents statements submitted by candidates for the Edmonds School Board, District 5.

Diana White

As a mother to four children in three schools, my volunteering has reached far and wide throughout the district and community. Two years ago, I began a popular after-school math tutoring program utilizing local high school
seniors. For the past four years I have taught algebra club at two local elementary schools. I have also presented Native American Education projects to students in several elementary schools.

My most challenging role was fundraising and building the new playground and walking track for Edmonds Elementary, which was a 3 year $200,000 project. I have since assisted other local elementary schools seeking advice for playground
installations.

I volunteer at the Edmonds Center for the Arts and am a board member for the Hazel Miller Foundation, a local philanthropic foundation serving Edmonds and South Snohomish County. My degree in finance from WSU and commercial insurance background will provide an excellent analytical perspective on the issues I will face as board member. I have been endorsed by outgoing Board member Pat Shields and former mayor Gary Haakenson.

If elected, I am confident that I will use my diverse background and perspective on the issues we will face as board members.
