Mavericks enter season against Shorecrest with key returners from 2010 team

Led by long-time coach Mark Stewart, now in his 11th year with the Mavericks, Meadowdale High School returns several key starters that led last year’s team to the first round of the Wesco 3A playoffs.

Back for the Mavericks, who went 7-4 overall in 2010, are seniors Kyler Larsen and Jacob Hughes at safety;  linebackers Kyle Newsom (senior), Corwin Perkins (senior) and Michael Cummings (junior);  senior offensive linemanTanner Davenport-Thuet; and senior defensive end Ethan Coffey,

Meadowdale, picked to finish first in the Wesco South 3A in the Seattle Times coaches poll released Wednesday, kicks off its season in an away game against Shorecrest, 7 p.m.
