The Regional Fire Authority Planning Committee exploring fire-service consolidation in south Snohomish County will meet Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m., in the Brackett Room at Edmonds City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N.
Committee members will view a PowerPoint program that will be presented to community groups to provide an overview of the RFA planning process. Also on the agenda are updates from subcommittees working on finance and level of service plans.
Nine jurisdictions are participating in the RFA talks: Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo, Woodway and Snohomish County Fire Districts 1 and 7. In March, each jurisdiction appointed three elected officials to serve on the RFA Planning Committee to study the idea of combining fire and emergency services. If the committee determines this would be feasible for south Snohomish County, a ballot measure to create an RFA would be put before voters. This planning process is expected to take at least two years.
The RFA Planning Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. All meetings are open to the public. The meeting location rotates among participating jurisdictions and is posted on the RFA Planning Committee website: www.rfa-planning.org. Agendas, minutes and planning documents are also available online.
