To the editor: Why I’m endorsing Mike Cooper for Edmonds Mayor

Dear Editor:
I am writing to endorse Mike Cooper for Edmonds Mayor. Mike is a decorated firefighter, husband and grandfather. He is a lifelong resident of Edmonds where he graduated from Edmonds High School. I support Mayor Cooper for many reasons.

Mike is a proven legislator. As a county council member, Mike spent his time ensuring that Edmonds does not become a landing zone for commercial air carriers at Paine Field. As Edmonds Mayor, Mike has secured State funding for waterfront parks and Edmonds Center for the Arts. As a State Legislator, Mike passed legislation ensuring that the Puget Sound is safe from oil spills.

Mike is a proven statesman. Mayor Cooper and I do not always agree on everything. There are some issues where we have vehemently disagreed with each other. However, I know that Mike will always listen to me and give me reasonable explanation of his position.

Mike is a proven civil rights leader. I am the Chair of NARAL Pro-ChoiceWashington. We are over 35,000 members working together to preserve and expand safe reproductive health care in Washington State. We are the strongest grassroots network of pro-choice activists in Washington. I am proud that NARAL Pro-Choice Washington has given Mayor Cooper an endorsement for the work he has done to preserve and expand safe reproductive health care in Washington and the work I know he will continue to do.

Mayor Mike Cooper has earned my endorsement because of all the work he has done on behalf of the citizens of Edmonds, Snohomish County, and Washington State.

  1. And let’s not forget that Mike Cooper has campaigned positively. His avoidance of negative campaigning is a breath of fresh air.

  2. The Mayor is the CEO of the city; he is not a legislator. Mike Cooper has demonstrated that he is not a good administrator.

Joe, you obviously did not receive Cooper’s most recent mailing – “Republican Dave Earling has a history of poor financial management.” That same side of the mailer has 3 negative statements about Dave Earling.

The position of mayor, as you know,is a nonpartisan office. Cooper is attempting to make it partisan, knowing that there are more Democrats in this city than there are Republicans.

  3. Ron, there are not more Democrats in Edmonds than Republicans. The City is split pretty evenly. Additionally, he has shown he can pass positive legislation.
