City seeks volunteers for Sister City, Arts Commissions and Architectural Design Board

The City of Edmonds is seeking citizen volunteers for its Sister City and Arts Commissions and its Architectural Design Board.

The Sister City Commission consists of 12 non-paid volunteers serving three-year terms. Sister City Commissioners attend one 7 p.m. meeting on the fourth Monday of each month and participate in committee work, hold at least one executive position within the commission during their three-year term, and participate in activities involving visitors from their Sister City Hekinan, Japan throughout the year. An interest in Japan and the Sister City philosophy and willingness to serve the citizens of Edmonds is desirable. Applicants participate in an interview process and are selected, in part, based upon their skills as they apply to the commission’s mission, functions, and current and ongoing projects.

The City of Edmonds Arts Commission is seeking applicants to serve a four-year term. The Arts Commission is made up of seven Edmonds residents who serve staggered four-year terms. By ordinance, four of these positions must be filled by people professionally engaged in the arts. This opening is for a person with a strong professional background in the visual arts. Applicants are interviewed by the EAC Nominations Committee and appointed by the Mayor and Council. Attendance is required at monthly meetings and each commissioner has at least one area of program responsibility. An average time commitment of four to eight hours per month is standard for most commissioners. An individual desiring this appointment must be willing to invest the time that is required and must be a resident of Edmonds. The Architectural Design Board is seeking volunteer applicants to fill the position of Planner. Applicants should work in the field of urban planning with the ability to deal with land use and design issues in the built environment. The appointed board member is required to attend up to two evening meetings a month, normally occurring on the first or third Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the downtown Edmonds Public Safety Complex. The ADB serves as an advisory board to the City Council on proposed multiple-family and commercial developments including site, landscape and building design. The appointed board member does not need to reside within city limits. Applications can be obtained at Edmonds City Hall, 121 5th Avenue N., or by calling the Mayor’s Office at 425-771-0247. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
