A representative from VFW Post 8870, Edmonds, visited Joint Base Lewis Mc Chord (JBLM) recently to provide assistance to soldiers and airmen and members of their families who find themselves in need during this holiday season.
The Post donated $500 in gift cards to the JBLM Garrison Chaplain, Col. Gary Studniewski, who noted that an increasing number of families have come forward to seek financial assistance and that the gift cards would be put to good use.
Post 8870 also made a $1,000 donation to Santa’s Castle, an organization of volunteers on the base who work year-round to purchase new toys for children. During the Christmas season, soldiers and airmen are able to “shop” for their children and leave Santa’s Castle loaded with toys for their children. There is no charge for the Christmas presents.
Private citizens and corporations who would like to donate to this cause can call 253-964-0635 for more information.
These donations came from the Post’s Relief Fund, which raises money through the semi-annual VFW poppy drive conducted by VFW Posts nationwide. The generosity of the Edmonds community has enabled Post 8870 to make donations such as these.
