On the farm in the 40’s and 50’s a snowy owl would reside for a couple of weeks in the winter on the lower branch of a big Douglas fir tree out back near the chicken house. I think he was hoping to find a newborn chick wander out into the chicken yard but we did not have chicks in the winter. The path to the chicken house went within maybe 15 feet of the tree and the owl was not bothered. He flew away one time when he saw me cut the head off the Christmas goose.
