Reminder: Christmas and New Year’s dining options close to home

New Year’s Eve is the most exciting stroke of midnight of the year, but can make for a very late night out and a tired drive home. Good thing Edmonds offers numerous ways to celebrate close to home.

Epulo Bistro is hosting a fixe-prixe five course dinner with amuse bouche. Seatings can be reserved at 5-5:30 p.m. for $40 per person, 7-7:30 p.m. for $50 per person or 9-9:30 p.m. for $60 per person. There will be two wine flights available, at either $40 or $75 per person depending on your preference. Reservations by calling 425-678-8680

Highlights of the menu include a first course of Crab & Shrimp Bisque with a sherry crème fraiche or Sweet Potato Raviolis with brown butter & sage. The main course offers four choices, a grilled veal chop, Dungeness crab cakes, port wine braised short rib or mushroom risotto. The meal ends with a Dark Chocolate Pave with fresh berries, Grand Marnier infused cream, raspberry coulis, or a Warm Poached Pear Crisp topped with toasted oats & ginger, cinnamon ice cream and salted caramel sauce.

Demetri’s Woodstone Taverna is hosting a New Years Eve dinner with the option of a three-course menu for $45 per person or five course menu for $75 per person. Reservations are available for a 6:30 or 9:30 p.m. seating. Reserve by calling 425-744-9999

Original creations by Chef Facundo DeFraia include Dungeness crab cakes or Serano ham wrapped asparagus as a first of five courses, grilled filet mignon with a sirrah demi glaze or a bone-in chicken breast with oyster mushrooms and hazelnut cream sauce for the entree, and a choice between two rich desserts and champagne toast to end the night.

Chanterelle is open on Christmas Eve for breakfast and lunch, closing at 3 p.m. and closed on Christmas. They will be open regular Saturday hours on New Year’s Eve, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then 4 p.m. to 9 pm. They will be serving a special three-course menu for $20 to $25 per person, in addition to their regular dinner menu. Special dishes include pomegranate jeweled scallops, New York Steak with a Guiness-laced cranberry steak sauce, country French cassoulet, lobster macaroni and cheese, and a “show stopping” pork Osso Bucco. New Year’s Day they will be serving a full breakfast menu from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., then closed for the rest of the day. 425-774-0650

The Loft Cafe & Social Lounge is will be open for Christmas Eve dinner and on New Year’s Eve for a special four-course dinner. There are two seatings available, 6 to 9 p.m. for $55 per person, or 9:30 pm to 2 a.m. for $65 per person. For reservations, call 425-640-5000 or or email info@theloftlounge.com

American Brewing Company will be open on New Year’s Eve with live music from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., featuring Third Train Running, a blues/rock band. They will have hats and noise makers to put you in the celebrating mood and snacks and finger foods will be available for a small cover charge. And of course, there will be beer!Patrons are welcome to bring in their own food as well, or order from the selection of take-out menus available from local eateries that will deliver to your table. Walnut Street Cafe will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, serving up their tasty pastries from Macrina Bakery and espresso drinks. They will also be open on Christmas Eve from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walnut Street is closed on Christmas Day.

    “fixe-prixe” (I believe it’s “prix fixe.” At least that’s the French form.) I’ll try to reach you via Teresa about some of the French usages and punctuation.
