A Lynnwood police pursuit of a man in a stolen Lexus SUV ended when the suspect crashed the vehicle into a tree in the Swedish/Edmonds parking lot early Wednesday morning.
According to Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions, a patrol officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the SUV, whch that had been reported stolen out of Seattle, near 196th Street Southwest and Highway 99 in Lynnwood. The suspect driver took off at a high rate of speed and the officer pursued the driver southbound on Highway 99.
The suspect then turned westbound into the driveway of Swedish/Edmonds and crashed into a tree. Aid crews responded and the suspect was transported to Harborview Medical Center with unknown injuries. “No one else was injured and property damage in the hospital parking lot was surprisingly minimal, missing nearby parked cars,” Sessions said.
Police are continuing to investigate. As of early Wednesday, the suspect driver hadn’t yet been identified.
