City to close downtown fountain intersection Tuesday to repair water main leak

The City of Edmonds has detected a water main leak near the fountain at 5th Avenue and Main Street. As a result, crews must close a portion of the intersection and limit traffic in the area Tuesday to make necessary repairs “so that it does not worsen and possibly cause damage to the roadway.”

Excavation and repair work will occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday. (Click on map  to enlarge for road closure and traffic restrictions.) Once the city assesses the damage, it’s possible that a larger work area may be needed. As a result, the entire intersection may be closed to car traffic, with only local access to vehicular traffic allowed on Main between 4th and 6th and on 5th between Dayton and Bell.
