Learn more about solar energy benefits, discounts, credits at PUD community meetings

Are you interested in learning about the financial and environmental benefits that come with owning your own solar energy system? Join Snohomish County Public Utility District this month for informational sessions about the utility’s Solar Express program, which offers a range of incentives and educational support for customers interested in solar energy.The utility’s program covers both solar photovoltaic systems and solar hot water systems.

Sessions will be held on the following dates and times:

Tuesday, Feb. 21, 6-7 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 22, noon-1 p.m.

Both meetings at PUD Headquarters – 2320 California St., Everett

More than 130 customers have participated in the Solar Express program in the past two years. Cash incentives/loans include the following:

Residential customers can qualify for up to $2,500 for solar photovoltaic systems and commercial customers can qualify for up to $10,000. All customers with electric hot water systems can qualify for a $500 incentive for solar hot water systems. Residential customers may instead opt for a 2.9% APR loan up to $25,000 for photovoltaic panels and up to $14,000 for solar hot water systems.

  1. And for those that rent their homes, have trees shading their roof or don’t have the budget for a full system of their own, they can buy into phase 2 of the Edmonds Community Solar Co-op. We are selling ownership in the 2nd system to be installed this spring on the roof of the Frances Anderson Community Center. Minimum buy in is $1,000 (+ $25 one time co-op membership fee) and we will receive a 30% grant from the federal govt., $1.08/kWh state production incentive, $.04/kWh green tag sales and the City gets all the power produced at a 40% discount. This is a great way for more people to be part of developing solar and receive the substantial financial benefits along with the environmental advantages of using solar versus conventional energy sources.
