Man who swam across Lake Ballinger has tried suicide before, police say

Here’s a follow-up to our story from last Wednesday, when a suicidal Mountlake Terrace man ended up at the front door of My Edmonds News headquarters on the shores of Lake Ballinger.

According to Mountlake Terrace Police Commander Doug Hansen, the 22-year-old man — who swam across the lake to the Edmonds side after stabbing himself in the chest — has a history of suicide attempts, and was taken to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital for a mental health evaluation following Wednesday’s incident.

Officials believe that the man’s swim across the lake stemmed the bleeding in the puncture wound, Hansen said. “Physically, he’s OK but we hope he will get the help he needs,” he added.
