Coming up this week: City Council Tuesday, Strategic Plan ‘charrette’ workshop Wednesday

The Edmonds City Council will meet for an hour Tuesday night, March 13, starting at 6 p.m., to hear an annual report from Snohomish County Fire District 1, followed by committee meetings. (Committee agendas are at the end of this article.) Audience comments will also be taken following the Fire District 1 report.

On Wednesday, March 14, the city will host the first of two community-wide conversations known as a charrette, as efforts to develop a strategic plan move to the next level. These conversations (the second one is Monday, March 19) are a followup to a series of focus group sessions held in January and February aimed at identifying issues or priorities that should be further discussed in the strategic planning process.

The two-hour public charrette — or brainstorming workshop — will be conducted with interested citizens who will help identify some of the higher-priority issues within the community.  Examples include: redevelopment of the downtown waterfront and Highway 99 activity areas; city governance and fiscal strategies to fund essential services and desirable community amenities; economic development and marketing of the city and expanding art related attractions.

Meeting room size limits the number of people that can attend the charrettes, so the city needs to know who is coming. If you, your family or friends are interested, call Cindi Cruz at 425-775-7724 or send an email to StrategicPlan@EdmondsWA.gov to sign up for either charrette date. Space will be reserved for you and the city will email you agenda materials prior to the session.  The March 14 charrette will be in the Edmonds Conference Center (Fourth Avenue and Bell Street) and the March 19 charrette will be in the Library Plaza Meeting Room (650 Main St.).
