Two Edmonds School District educators have been elected to the Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) board.

Scott Barnes, the district’s manager of visual and performing arts, is president-elect on the WMEA Executive Board for the 2012-14 biennium and will then continue to serve as WMEA President for 2014-16. Barnes has served on the WMEA Board as the administrative curriculum officer (2008-10) and vice president (2010-12).

Karen Helseth, orchestra teacher at Edmonds-Woodway High School, has been elected WMEA vice president for the 2012-14 biennium. Helseth served previously on the WMEA Board as the orchestra curriculum chair in 2008-2010.

The WMEA is the primary professional organization for music educators in Washington state, with more than 1,600 members.  The organization’s mission is to ensure that every student in Washington state has access to a comprehensive, sequential music education taught by a qualified instructor.
