Driftwood Players theatre arts scholarships
The Edmonds Driftwood Players, a non-profit community theatre, will award scholarships ($500 or more) to deserving students who will attend college in the ’12-’13 school year and who currently reside in or attend school in the South Snohomish or Northwest King County areas.
Applicants shall have demonstrated talent in the theatre arts (performance or technical areas) and intend to study theatre arts in college. Deadline for applications is April 13, 2012.
Applicants are required to submit the following pertinent information for consideration for the scholarship awards:
1. Applicant name, address, phone number. If a minor- Parent name(s) and address(es).
2. Name of your current school and counselor or advisor.
3. A list of high school or college extracurricular activities, and any awards or honors received.
4. Intended college for fall 2012.
5. A letter from your teacher in your school’s Theatre Department or other theatre mentor.
6. An essay of 300 words about your interest in theatre arts and what you plan to study in college.
7. Transcript of grades, including the 1st semester of senior year or latest semester of college.
8. Date of awards ceremonies at your high School (if applicable).

VFW Post #8870 Freedom scholarships
VFW Post #8870 has announced the establishment of the Freedom Scholarship, which will be awarded to four deserving graduating seniors — two living in the Edmonds School District and two in the Mukilteo Public School District. Each of the four scholarships will be in the amount of $1,000 and will be awarded to seniors who will be enrolling full time at an accredited vocational, technical, college or university in the fall 2012 semester.
Students will be required to submit a transcript of their high school academic record and a resume that lists the high school activities, leadership positions and any volunteer work. In addition, applicants will be asked to write a 500-750 word essay in which they explain what freedom means to them and how the U.S. Constitution establishes and maintains a culture of freedom.
Students may obtain a Freedom Scholarship application from the career centers in their respective high schools or it can be downloaded from the VFW Post web site at www.vfw8870.org .The deadline for the submission is May 1, 2012. Scholarship recipients will be notified of their selection prior to their high school’s spring awards program.
Floretum Garden Club of Edmonds Horticulture scholarship
The Floretum Garden Club of Edmonds each year offers scholarships to high school graduates, community college students, or individuals planning a career in a horticultural field. The scholarship recipients may attend any community college, college, technical school or university in Washington state during the year following the award.
Selection is based on the following criteria:
· Interest in horticulture, floral design, landscape design, botany. forestry, or a related field.
· Financial need
· Legal resident
· Activities and achievements in school and community
One $1,000-$1,500 scholarship will be awarded this year. Funds will be deposited in the financial office of the institution selected by the award recepient and may be applied toward tuition, books and other class fees.

The deadline for all applications is May 9, 2012.
Edmonds Police Foundation scholarships
The purpose of the Edmonds Police Foundation scholarship program is to honor and give financial support to students who have chosen to pursue an education in criminal justice, law enforcement or related fields.
Applications will be chosen from high school seniors currently enrolled for the school year 2011-2012 and who live in Edmonds. Up to three scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each will be awarded.
The scholarship rules for participation, eligibility for awards, selection criteria, and all other provisions of this program may be changed at any time by a vote of the Edmonds Police Foundation Board.
