Edmonds Heights K-12 presents the Broadway musical ‘Xanadu’ May 4-12

Edmonds Heights K-12 will perform the Broadway musical ‘Xanadu’ starting this Friday, May 4 through May 12 at the school, located at 23200 100th Ave. W. (former Woodway High School).

Xanadu, which was nominated for the 2008 Tony Award for Best Musical, follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first Roller Disco! (Hey, it’s 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation and chaos abounds.

Based on the film starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, and with classic numbers like “Magic,” “Suddenly” and “Evil Woman,” the audience will roll right along with the lively score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne (of Electric Light Orchestra) and John Farrar, and a hysterical book by Douglas Carter Beane.

Xanadu is directed by Shileah Corey, choreographed by Gabriel Corey and Indeah Thomaier, and conducted by Michael Corey and features a cast of 30 talented actors, ages 14-18. Performances are May 4, 5, 11 and 12 at 7 p.m., with matinee performances May 6 and 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Call 425-431-7840 for information.
