Edmonds police on Monday arrested a 44-year-old Monroe man on suspicion of committing a string of local burglaries, after keeping an eye on a home in the 22200 block of 96th Avenue West that had been burglarized before.
While investigating the initial burglary, police acquired information that led them to believe the person who stole from that home intended to come back a second time, Edmonds police spokesman Sgt. Mike Blackburn said in a Tuesday news release. Police began monitoring the residence and at 5:27 a.m. Monday officers were alerted that the unoccupied home was being broken into again.
Responding in less than three minutes, Edmonds police — with assistance from Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace officers — approached the home and observed a suspicious vehicle parked directly across the street from it, Blackburn said. “Moments later the burglar was spotted exiting the residence carrying bags loaded with stolen property. Although the suspect was armed with weapons, he was taken into custody without resistance,” he added.
Edmonds police detectives served search warrants for the vehicle and the burglar’s residence, and recovered property that included precious metals, jewelry, silver and china serving sets, televisions, collectable antiques and tools. Some of the property was easily identified by owner-inscribed unique numbers.
The Monroe man was arrested for suspicion of residential burglary and has been booked into Snohomish County Jail while the investigation continues. According to Blackburn, detectives have so far connected the suspect to six Edmonds burglaries.
