One of Edmonds’ most famous celebrities (a portion of 5th Avenue South is named after her), figure skater Rosalynn Sumners returned Saturday to the area where she began her career, helping the Seattle Skating Club celebrate its 75th anniversary at Olympicview ice rink in Mountlake Terrace.

Sumners, who won a Silver medal in the 1984 Winter Olympics, was the World Junior champion in 1980, the U.S. National champion in 1982, 1983 and 1984, and World champion in 1983. She turned professional after the 1984 Winter Olympics, touring first with Disney on Ice and then on the Stars on Ice tour, with which she appeared until 1999. While Sumners was raised in Edmonds, she now lives in Kirkland.

Sumners hosted a “Meet & Greet” Saturday afternoon between 75th anniversary ice shows at Mountlake Terrace’s Olympicview Arena. In addition to Sumners, the show included other Olympians who got their start at Seattle Skating Club.
