Threat that closed Meadowdale involved alleged student with gun

The threat that caused the closure of Meadowdale High School involved a person claiming to be a Meadowdale student who threatened to take a gun to school and shoot people, Lynnwood police said Friday afternoon.

Here’s the news release sent by police:

Last night at approximately 9:30 p.m. Lynnwood Police received information that a person claiming to be a Meadowdale High School student was threatening to take a gun to school and shoot people there. The threat was communicated over an internet forum anonymously. Several tips followed the first from different people across the U.S. who viewed this single anonymous threat.

The Lynnwood Police Department notified the Edmonds School District about the threat and District officials made the determination, as a precautionary measure, to close that campus for the day.

Detectives continue to work this case and have reached out to federal agencies to assist efforts in identifying the person or persons responsible for this threat. At this time the police have not identified a suspect but are continuing their investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Scott Dilworth at 425-670-5619.
