Edmonds Community College on Wednesday is showing “MissRepresentation,” a film that showcases how girls are portrayed in the media.
“Girls get the message from very early on that what’s most important is how they look,” according to filmmaker Jean Kilbourne, one of the leaders in Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s documentary. Given the 10 hours and 45 minutes of media consumed by teens daily, the film addresses the question: Are girls portrayed positively or in a way that diminishes their value?
“MissRepresentation” plays at 4 p.m. in the college’s Black Box Theatre. Admission is free.
