The Mavericks were tied 0-0 in second overtime with a minute to go Wednesday night when Will McCoy was taken down five yards in front of the Terrace box and earned a free kick. Mark Elder lined up to take the kick, and shot it wide. It was a perfect summary of the game for the Mavs: A whole bunch of scoring chances they were unable to convert. Because of the tie, the Mavericks are eliminated from the District tournament as their record drops to 3-10-3, just below the sixth-place Everett Seagulls holding a record of 4-10-2. Evan Lee recorded the shutout for the Mavs.
The game was almost all Meadowdale from the start. Five minutes in, Austin Panek got a head on a Taylor Linton cross right in front of the goal that was saved. Eleven minutes later, Linton hit a shot from the corner of the box off the post that bounced to Drew McCoy, and he put a shot on net from a bad angle that was saved.
In the 19th minute, Elder took a long shot that had to be stopped. Chris Prasanna took a shot in the 28th minute from the top of the box that was caught by a diving Terrace keeper in desperation. Prasanna had another chance in the 31st minute that went just over the net. Michael Truax hit a one touch shot on a cross from Linton that went wide in the 39th minute, and neither team was able to score in the first.
In the second, Meadowdale came out fighting even harder. After a few corner kicks that went through the crease, in the 47th minute Colton Davis sent a shot from the corner of the box just of the post. Davis hit a bouncing ball over the net in the 61st minute on the next great chance for the Mavs, and the game remained 0-0. Davis then stole the goal kick after his missed shot and sent another shot just wide of the goal.
After drawing a free kick, Elder hit a 30-yard shot in on the keeper that was saved in the 66th minute. The rest of the chances the Mavericks had in the half were shots that went wide or high. Linton hit a shot in the last minute that just went over the crossbar and off the football goalposts to punctuate the scoreless half. They would go to OT.
In the first overtime, a free kick from Justin Crichlow 35 yards out was stopped by the keeper, and Prasanna took a cross and sent a shot just over the net. Those were the only two chances by either side, and it went to second OT scoreless. Another long shot by Crichlow two minutes into the 5-minute overtime was saved, and the Mavericks had two corner kicks they were unable to capitalize on. With 30 seconds to go, McCoy drew a foul trying to split the defense and was tripped up 30 yards from the goal.
Elder took the free kick, and sent it wide. The Hawks stalled long enough on the goal kick to end the game at a 0-0 score
With the tie, the Mavericks (3-10-3) are eliminated from any postseason play, as this was the last game of the year, and they finished seventh out of the nine teams in the Wesco division. With the tie, the Hawks go to 3-11-2, and finish eighth in the league.
