Edmonds Memorial Day observance Monday at 11 a.m.

American Legion Post 66 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 8870 participate in the presentation of colors during the 2010 ceremony.

Take an hour out of your day Monday to appreciate why we celebrate Memorial Day at the annual Edmonds ceremony starting at 11 a.m.

The Edmonds-Woodway High School Brass Quintet will play “America The Beautiful” to start the event, with a welcome and introduction by Dale E. Hoggins and Mayor Dave Earling.

Fred Apgar, Sr. Vice Cmdr, VFW Post No. 8860, will present the POW/MIA Remembrance, followed by a presentation by VFW essay winner Katarina Nguyen, a senior at Edmonds-Woodway. Navy Veteran Ervin Schmidt’s story of surviving Pearl Harbor will be read by Blaise Lamb, also an EWHS senior. Washington National Guard 1st Sergeant Christopher M. Edwards will play “Taps,” and piper Mike Barber will conclude the service with “Amazing Grace.”

The Edmonds Memorial Cemetery is located just north of the QFC on 100th Avenue West in the Westgate neighborhood.
