The Snohomish County Conservation District and People for Puget Sound coordinated a “noxious weed-pulling party” alongside a 7th Avenue South stream in Edmonds last week and more than 30 people turned out, including children.
According to volunteer Heather Margo, “it was a huge job but working together we got most of the target area cleared.” Once the weeds were removed and roots dug, the area was covered with mulch provided by Alice’s Tree Service.
“Using a deep mulch cover we should be able to keep the weeds down until we have a chance to plant it up in the fall,” Margo said, and neighbors will continue to remove the weeds in the final portion over the next few weeks.
“In the fall we will plant native trees and shrubs so our stream side will be healthy and pleasant to look at,” she added. “Everyone who joined to help should feel very proud of the work they completed. Together, we are making Edmonds an even better place to live.”
Most impressive and much thanks to the RESIDENTS of Edmonds who instigated this and made this good work happen!!
