On Tuesday night, the Edmonds City Council will select one of 18 applicants to fill the council seat vacated by the resignation of long-time Councilmember Michael Plunkett. The first candidate to receive a majority of councilmember votes will get the nod. If no candidate receives a majority on the first ballot, the voting continues until someone does receive a majority.
Among the applicants are a host of former city councilmembers — Ron Wambolt, Steve Bernheim, Roger Hertrich, Natalie Shippen and Dick Van Hollebeke — plus two council hopefuls who ran for election in 2011: Darlene Stern and Tad Helke. You can read a summary of all the applicants here.
It’s the third time in the past two years the council has had an open seat. In early 2010, Diane Buckshnis was appointed to fill a seat left open following the death of Peggy Pritchard Olson. In mid-2010, Lora Petso was selected from 14 applicants for the position vacated by the retirement of Dave Orvis.
