More than $1,000 was raised Sunday for the Edmonds Mural Society through a Cash Mob at the society’s informal headquarters: Manya Vee Selects gallery in downtown Edmonds.

“That alone pays for one half of one of this year’s three murals,” Mural Society municipal liaison Jeff Stilwell said. “We are thrilled to see that so many residents of Edmonds came by for the Cash Mob,” Stilwell added.  “Clearly, the murals are something that this city wants to see succeed.”

Cash mobs are gaining popularity across the U.S. as a way of providing targeted support to businesses and organizations. One was held for Petosa’s Family Grocer two months ago after a malfunctioning sprinkler system forced the store to close for a couple of weeks.

If you missed Sunday’s event, never fear. You can donate at any time by stopped by Manya Vee’s store at 409 via the Mural Society’s website, where a minimum donation of $20 gives you a society membership. The Mural Society so far has raised 11 murals in downtown Edmonds, with three more scheduled this summer.
