It’s not every day that someone in Edmonds turns 103, so on Friday, Aegis of Edmonds helped resident Leslie Nagel celebrate that special birthday, with balloons, birthday cake and a visit from Mayor Dave Earling.
They also created a display about her life, which told the story of her being born on June 29, 1909 on a farm in North Dakota; of becoming a teacher and marrying a fellow teacher; of moving to Montana where she gave birth to a son, and then to Alaska where she and her husband also taught school. She and her family eventually ended up in the small town of Wilson Creek in Central Washington, where her husband became superintendent and she continued to teach, then they moved to Mount Vernon.
Her husband died in 1980, but Nagel lived on her own until she moved into Aegis Edmonds at the age of 97.
This is a great thing for you to have done, Mr. Mayor!
And I should have also said that it’s a perfect photo of the moment!
