With just five matches left in the regular season, the North Sound SeaWolves have signed Jesse Klug, a former member of the Seattle Sounders Youth Academy and one of the top high school players in Washington state.

Klug led Redmond’s The Overlake School to a state title this past season, breaking his school record with 39 goals, including nine hat tricks. As a sophomore, he had scored 28 goals for Overlake.

“He’s been training with us for a few weeks and he scores in every practice,” SeaWolves coach Alex Silva said. “He knows how to finish, can really score. He’s young but he can play.”

Klug, an 18-year-old forward from Sammamish, skipped his junior season at Overlake to play for the Sounders U16 Academy team, where he scored 14 goals in leading the team to the National Development Academy final.

Klug will play his college soccer at Bucknell University.

Silva previously was an assistant at Overlake to head coach Bob Bristol, who referred Klug to Silva.

“Bob called me and I knew coming from Bob that Jesse would be a good player,” Silva said. “And he is, he has a great final touch and knows what to do around the goal.”

Klug is expected to be in uniform when the SeaWolves meet the Seattle Sounders U-23 team at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Edmonds Stadium, the final home game of the season for North Sound.
