Edmonds hydro on way to Tri-Cities

The Miss Peters and May leaving Edmonds Thursday.

By Harry Gatjens

The Miss Peters and May unlimited hydroplane left Edmonds Thursday afternoon and is on its way to this weekend’s race in the Tri-Cities. The boat has undergone extensive repairs since its crash in Detroit two weeks ago.

Owners Scott and Shannon Raney and JW Myers are all tired from many hours of work over the past two weeks. They feel the boat is back in tip-top condition and expect good performances this weekend.

The boat will race with 12 other unlimited hydroplanes and is still expected to finish in the top five despite having been extensively repaired. The favorites are, as always, the Spirit of Qatar, driven by Dave Villwock, and the Oh Boy! Oberto, with driver Steve David. The Spirit of Qatar has not lost a single heat all year long.

Our local boat is hoping to qualify at an average speed of approximately 155 mph. Complete qualifying results will be posted Friday on My Edmonds News, and race results will be posted Saturday and Sunday.
