Edmonds woman named first runner-up in Miss Seafair competition

Congratulations to Edmonds’ own Yuna Nishimoto, who was named First Princess — or first runner-up — in the Miss Seafair competition just before Seattle’s Torchlight Parade Saturday night.

Nishimoto, a 2007 graduate of Edmonds-Woodway High School, represented the Japanese Scholarship Organization of Washington in the competition. Her older sister, Kisa, served as Miss Seafair in 2010.

Nishimoto will be a senior this fall at the University of Washington, where she is majoring in business, and since high school has worked as a receptionist at Edmonds’ Matthew Robert Salon on Highway 99. The youngest of six children, Nishimoto is the daughter of Katsu and Maria Nishimoto of Edmonds.

Two other Edmonds-Woodway High School graduates having been serving as Seafair princesses this summer and were also in the running for Miss Seafair: Annie Wilson (2010) and Katarina Nguyen (2012). The three Edmonds-area women were among 15 contestants are selected to represent a specific community organization as part of the Seafair Court, and spend eight weeks attending nearly 20 community events.
