My Edmonds News presents the Dog of the Week, Jack, from Forever Home Dog Rescue. Jack’s story follows, but first we wanted to share great news about an earlier dog we featured, Righty, an 8-year-old pitbull who needed leg surgery.

Among those reading that story was Thayer Cueter, head of the Just Frogs Toads Too Amphibian Center on the Edmonds waterfront, and a former veterinary surgical technician to Dr. Jeff Mayos. Cueter connected Forever Home Dog Rescue founder Diane Swanberg to Dr. Mayos, who agreed to perform the surgery for the cost of materials. Also donating to the cause was Dr. Zile Singh of Greenwood Animal Hospital, who provided the surgery room, medication, boarding and recovery care. “Plus several wonderful people have sent money in, so his [Righty’s] surgery will be paid for with the donations,” Swanberg said.

There is even more good news:  A couple met Righty during a recent adoption event “and fell in love,” Swanberg added. “They’ve submitted their application to adopt him and are very excited about giving him a forever home. ”

And now, here is Jack’s story:

Hi I’m Jack. I’m a 5-year-old male black-and-white Schipperke mix. I’ve got some classic Schippererke qualities. Attentive and loyal, I’d make a great companion to someone who wants a dutiful dog. I’m sweet and would love nothing but to please you. I’m particularly fascinated with gazing into a person’s eyes. Then I’m dashing off to the next thing that grabs my attention. I’m curious and athletic, which sometimes can get me in a little trouble.

I came from a shelter in Portland, Ore., so I’m really loving my foster mom’s back yard. You’ll find me hopping and skipping, eating grass and sniffing the flowers. I live with two other dogs — a chihuahua and an English bulldog. They’re not too keen on me but I know my manners and keep way from them when they don’t want company. Right now, I’m just happy to be alive. My foster mother comments on how grateful I seem. Jubilantly running up for a pet, then dashing off for the next big adventure.

I’m very food motivated and am not possessive around treats and meals. I’m neutered, updated on all of my shots and am microchipped. Choose me if you want a free spirit. Sometimes you need a reminders to play goofy in this life. Watch me play and you’ll be reminded too.

I would do best in a household with older kids as I’m pretty strong sometimes not so careful with my movements. Schipperkes need boundaries so a confident owner is warranted. And I’m a sensitive and intelligent dog that requires positive training. My foster dad gave me a very disapproving look when I ran outside when I wasn’t suppose to and I rolled over on my back in submission. I’m really a people pleaser.

• Your application will be screened and you will receive a phone call with more information.
• A Meet and Greet will be set up. All members of your household (dogs and humans) must attend the meet and greet.
• Pay the adoption fee, sign the adoption contract and receive the dog’s health records
