Edmonds Artwalk, Mural Society: Doing our part to make our corner of world more beautiful

The Edmonds Art Walk, easily regarded as one of the largest in the state, and the Edmonds Mural Society, just completing its 14th mural, are both coming of age.

Interestingly, telling the story of how the Art Walk and Mural Society developed is increasingly becoming part of what we do.  (If you would like me to speak to a community group, service organization, or your church, just ask!)

I spoke the other morning at a Chamber of Commerce breakfast about the story of the Art Walk and the Mural Society. A few lines resonated. One in particular, I remember. I saw many pairs of eyes grow quite thoughtful when I said…

“There are so many things to work toward in life. Take money, for example. To spend your life acquiring as much money as you can. Or power, influence. To work all your life gathering so much power that you have so many reins in your hands with which to dictate to others. Or celebrity. To chase fame surrounding your name and making it the toast of the town.

As attractive as these are, how much more attractive to decide to spend your life making this spot of the globe, our spot, just that much more beautiful.

A place to walk, to talk, to sit, with your family, your friends, your children, your pets, your neighbors, your cousins and behold this gem of a city that we have all created together.”

Both the Edmonds Art Walk and the Edmonds Mural Society were inspired by that core conviction.
