Edmonds resident Mario Brown is headed to Charlotte, N.C. in a few weeks. Brown will be the only delegate from Edmonds at the Democratic National Convention Sept. 4-6. A delegate’s purpose at the convention is to nominate the candidate who will run in the presidential election.
Brown has been involved in politics since he was 10 years old, putting up signs and knocking on doors in California. He believes in fighting for what he believes in, even though “I don’t really enjoy politics,” he said.
Brown has run several times to be a national delegate, but this is the first time he has been chosen.
“It just hit me, yesterday or today, that I’ll be seeing the President speak,” Brown said, adding that he is also looking forward to hearing from former President Bill Clinton.
While the presidential race is important, Brown said the gubernatorial election will be the most significant on the ballot. “It’s the one race you really can’t predict,” Brown said of the race between candidates Jay Inslee and Rob McKenna.
No Edmonds residents are attending the Republican National Convention being held this week in Tampa, Fla.
