The Edmonds City Council recently passed an ordinance allowing the appointment of student representatives living within the Edmonds city limits to be appointed to the city’s various boards and commissions. These are open to students, age 16-25, who will be enrolled in high school or college-level classes during the 2012-2012 academic year.
The following three positions so far have been announced:
Edmonds Arts Commission
Students, age 16-25, who will be enrolled in high school or college-level classes during the 2012-2012 academic year. Students with leadership qualities and with any level of experience or background in the visual, literary, and/or performing arts will be considered.
Responsibilities during the term include attending the monthly EAC (Edmonds Arts Commission) meeting, scheduled the first Monday of every month at 6:00 pm in the Frances Anderson Center. Students will also be encouraged to report on local youth artistic events and activities and participate in projects as outlined by the EAC.
A Certificate of Participation and a letter of recommendation will be given upon successful and satisfactory completion of the term. This can also be added as a civic affiliation on résumés and qualify for volunteer or community service hours.

Edmonds Economic Development Commission
The commission addresses specific issues related to economic development that will improve commercial viability, tourism and activity for consideration by the Edmonds City Council. This appointment will be for a one academic year term starting September 2012. The youth seat will be non-voting; however the person selected will participate in discussions and encouraged to comment. Community service hours can be arranged.
Qualifications and requirements:
• 16-25 years of age
• reside in Edmonds
• course work in Social Studies, U.S. History or the equivalent
• able to meet on 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m.
• commit to reading materials
• fill out and submit application along with suitable references

The Edmonds Citizens’ Tree Board
The mission of the Tree Board is to engage, encourage and educate both the city government and residents to protect the city’s current canopy resource and plant new trees appropriately for the long-term benefit of the community.
