In addition, firefighters from Edmonds Fire Station 17 will be joining Edmonds police officers for the September 11 Memorial Taps ceremony beginning at 7:03 a.m. at the fountain at 5th Avenue and Main Street in downtown Edmonds.
At 9:11 a.m., firefighters will gather at the Edmonds Fallen Firefighter Memorial at 6th Avenue and Sprague Street outside Fire Station 17 for a flag ceremony with bag pipes and a word from a fire department chaplain. Also in attendance will be retired Fire District 1 Capt. Andy Speier, who worked for New York Fire Department and returned following the Sept. 11, 2001 attack to assist with the rescue efforts. The event is free and open to the public.
A one-ton steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center will be on display during the ceremony. The beam will become the focal point of a memorial that will be built at the park.
