Edmonds writer Judith Works’ piece, “How I Floated Into Retirement,” recently won the Travelers’ Tales Elder Travel “Gold” award for best story by a traveler 65 years of age or older.
In the story, Works and her husband Glenn cruise between rich lands and poor with a drunk countess and a shawl arranger who seems to reveal more than he covers. The winning piece is posted here.
Congrats big time Judith! Delighted to read of your success. Eager to read your award winning work! I am pleased to look back on this past spring and think of our EPIC Monday morning writing sessions under the direction of our fearless leader, Janette Turner! Glad to have met you in the process and now able to celebrate this accomplishment with you. Again, very pleased for you and a hearty well earned congratulations! Kizzie Jones
Congratulations, Judith!
Fabulous, Judith! I love the essay — especially the story of the family needing open-ocean provisions! Congratulations!
I certainly don’t see you as an ‘elder’ but big congrats on the award! Intrigued by the mention of the ‘shawl arranger’ I greatly enjoyed your story. Sounds like a fabulous experience. cheers, sam
