Lynnwood Rotary Community Foundation supports early learning in Edmonds School District

The Edmonds School District’s Kindergarten Jump Start Program, a transitional program for incoming kindergartners, received a huge boost this school year, thanks to $3,000 in grants from the Lynnwood Rotary Community Foundation.

Seven schools were able to run parent events for over 400 families while their children attended Jump Start. In addition to meeting the principal and a kindergarten teacher, parents learned how they can support their child’s learning experience in kindergarten and at home.

The Rotarians also purchased — and put together — over 400 learning bags for all of the Jump Start Kindergartners, including pencil grips, letter and number cards, fine motor tools and paper pads. All of these materials were given to families with lessons from the kindergarten teachers on how to use the items to support their child’s learning at home.

The Jump Start Parent Program was implemented under the leadership and coordination of Rotarian and former Edmonds School District Administrator Sue Venable.
