The Sister City Commission is seeking volunteers to fill openings on the commission, which consists of 12 non-paid volunteers serving three-year terms. Sister City Commissioners attend one 7 p.m. meeting on the fourth Monday of each month and serve on committees, hold at least one executive position within the commission during their three-year term, and participate in activities involving visitors from their Sister City Hekinan, Japan throughout the year.

Each of the Sister City Commissioners have a special connection to, or interest in, Japan and see the value of encouraging adult and student exchanges between Edmonds and Hekinan. Being a commissioner often helps individuals learn about the variety of resources Edmonds residents enjoy – in education, health services, local artists, the natural beauty of the area and city history.

An interest in Japan and the Sister City philosophy and willingness to serve the citizens of Edmonds is desirable. Applicants participate in an interview process and are selected, in part, based upon their skills as they apply to the commission’s mission, functions, and current and ongoing projects.
