Seen in Edmonds: Workers unearth old pipes during Main Street project

Pam Lemke in the City of Edmonds Public Works Department reported Wednesday that workers have exposed 1927 water main and unearthed old cedar woodstave pipe as part of the Main Street improvements now underway between 5th and 6th in downtown Edmonds. “Come on down to the west end and you can see it!” Lemke said. For those who don’t know, a woodstave is a narrow length of wood, handmade with a slightly beveled edge to form the sides of barrels, tanks and pipelines.
  1. It will be a great improvement, however a sad farewell to the lovely established trees that were all down the sidewalk, on both sides of the street.
we need to try and conserve our trees, especially in Edmonds where we seem to be taking established trees down every year and planting new smaller “appropriate” trees.
I do hope that we will be very cautious to preserve the 4 large trees at the fountain on 5th and Main.

  2. It is horrible that the old trees are gone. What is up with the huge stumps? It looks awful. It takes forever for a tree to grow and look nice. What a shame and probably didn’t really need to be done.
