Swedish/Edmonds is offering free screening tests for Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and testosterone levels on Sept. 20 from 6-8 p.m. Those attending can learn more about men’s health topics from local urologists presenting at the event.
“About 95 percent of low testosterone cases are undiagnosed and therefore untreated,” said Dr. Tim Roddy, urologist and Senior Medical Director at Swedish/Edmonds Hospital. “When ignored, symptoms can affect one’s quality of life. If we can identify men with low levels then we can discuss the options for treatment and really make a difference.”
Low levels of testosterone, the main male hormone, may be evident by poor quality of sleep, low sex drive, lack of energy and other symptoms. If a low level is detected, talk to a physician because many factors should be considered and low “T” may not be the cause.
“Vini”, the hospital’s robotic-assisted, daVinci® surgical system, will make a rare public appearance. Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery is now the main approach for prostate cancer surgery.
Starting at 6 p.m., local physicians will discuss four men’s health topics: sexual health, prostate cancer/robotic surgery, naturopathic urologic services and Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH).
PSA screening has come under recent controversy in the press over the last year. Local physicians will be prepared to discuss all aspects of this controversy and answer your questions regarding PSA screening and your health.
Results of the non-fasting blood tests will be available seven business days after the event.
Pre-registration for the health screenings is limited to the first 48 people. No registration is required for the presentations, 6 to 7 p.m.; ask the doctor, 6 to 8 p.m. and robot demonstration, 7 to 8 p.m. Register by visiting www.swedish.org/menshealth or calling (425) 640-4747. Refreshments will be served.
