About 2,000 Snohomish County PUD customers in downtown Edmonds found themselves without electricity for about 90 minutes Monday night after a tree limb fell on a power line .
PUD spokesman Bob Bolerjack said the power went out at about 5:30 p.m. Monday. As of 7:08 p.m., all but 95 customers had their electricity restored and utility crews expected to have the remainder back on line shortly.
One Edmonds resident reported via Twitter that there was no power along 3rd Avenue South, south of Main Street, and that traffic lights 3rd and Main/Third and Dayton were also out.
We live on Birch Street, just down the hill from First Security Bank. Our power didn’t come on until 8:35.
Thanks — PUD said all but 95 customers were back as of 7:05 p.m.
I must have been part of the 95 customers as my outage lasted until about 8:35pm, also. That’s 3+ hours for some of us.
Yeah, 3 hours for us too.
How does that work? Was there more than one tree limb that came down in different places? How do you restore one downed power line, but it still leaves one area without?
Also, it was dead calm at 5:30 last night. Did a tree limb suddenly decide to end it all?
Not sure why, but in this part of Edmonds we lose power at least a couple of times month. Somehow a block to the north the power seems to never go out.
I’ve lived here 25 years and have never fully understood why the power goes out so frequently when back in the midwest with lots of trees, much more frequent thunderstorms, tornadoes, ice, etc. the power would go out maybe once every two years.
Yeah, I know… not the end of the world and it’s kinda nice sometimes to have the peace and quiet, but it’s still a mystery.
8:35 for us at Point Edwards too, and there is more than 95 of us here! And I agree with Kurt, I am amazed at how many times we lose power in Edmonds. Lived in Ballard for over 10 years and we never lost power. Since being in Edmonds, well, I can’t count that high! I called Snohomish PUD and heard something about trees and squirrels. Hmm, all neighborhoods have those!
