Johnny Pehrson, 4, son of Jeff and Michelle Pehrson of Edmonds, was delighted to meet the Cat in the Hat at the Edmonds Bookshop Thursday evening. The event is a part of the Seattle Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi’s project to collect new children’s books for Washington state families who have no books in their homes. The Edmonds Bookshop is giving a 20 percent discount through October Literacy Month for any new children’s books purchased for the project and all books will be donated to Page Ahead, a local literacy organization. The Cat in the Hat will also pose for photos and read to children at Comstock Jewelers in downtown Edmonds on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. as a part of the Edmonds Art Walk. Comstock Jewelers, 411 Main Street, is also collecting new children’s books for this cause through Oct. 31.
