If you’re dying to see a “flash mob” in action, now’s your chance. On Halloween, the Edmonds Halloween Party “Thriller” Flash Mob will happen at 5 p.m. near the Fountain on Main and 5th – but if you want to join in, you need to learn the steps and attend a practice at Harbor Square Athletic Club on Saturday at 5 p.m. or Tuesday at 7 p.m. The dance can also be learned on the YouTube site. To find out more, we checked in with Flash Mob leader Sharon Fischer.
My Edmonds News: How did you come up with the idea for an Edmonds Halloween Flash Mob?
S.F. : I came up with the idea a few years back. I have been going to the Halloween celebration in Edmonds for several years and always thought to myself wouldn’t it be awesome if people broke out into “Thriller” and did a dance? Finally, this year I just asked the Chamber for their permission and they thought it was a great idea. I belong to Harbor Square Athletic Club and one of the teachers there said she would do the choreography and put it on YouTube.
My Edmonds News: What do folks have to do to join in?
S.F.: If anyone wants to join in they can go on YouTube and put in “Edmonds Thriller Flash Mob” and learn the dance. We are having two group practices at HSAC on Saturday, Oct 27, at 5 pm and Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 7 pm. Costumes on Halloween can be Zombie or whatever. Until those practices, I really have no idea how many people will join in except for the 20 or so that have told me they are doing it.
My Edmonds News: Please tell us about your dance background.
S.F.: My only dance background is I taught aerobic dance years ago, and one year I danced at Barclay Shelton. I do love to dance though. I also love Halloween and dress up every year. It has been an interesting experience putting this all together and I think it is great people are talking about it and wanting to join in for the fun. And finally, it is one more thing off of my “bucket list!”
