Edmonds Beauty: It’s time to fall for latest fall fashions

What’s not to love about fall? The weather, the warm drinks, the FASHION. Everyone knows they need to layer up, wear neutrals, own some colored pants, and bring out the boots. So I’ll add my favorite tips:

1. Own a lot of black? You should! There’s nothing wrong with that. Instead of the  “goth” look, I would grab a khaki trench coat and pair black up with that. The color combo is so fresh. Dressing Well is a website that does wardrobe management. Each month they have an “Ask Mary Lou” section, which allows anyone to ask a fashion question. According to Mary Lou, “A white shirt also looks smart with khakis. Some silver jewelry at your neck and ears with some black detailing will also help you feel really pulled together!” And I agree 100 percent.

2. Big bags. What works is simplicity because, let’s face it, substantial size plus tons of details equals Mary Poppins. And let’s just say that ain’t poppin’. When choosing a bag, keep in mind the overall size of it.  If you have a petite frame, a large tote could overpower you.

3. Combat boots. Scratch those heels and wedge boots off your list, and add combat boots for a splash of attitude! If you want something tougher and more masculine, you may like this style. I am sure that there are fashionistas out there who love to be on the bolder side of the fashion world instead always being feminine. Am I right, ladies?

4. Don’t be afraid to have a style icon. Even celebs have one. While many think it has to be a designer, a model or someone who’s in the fashion world, I am here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be like that! While at a Giorgio Armani party in New York in 2009, Alicia Keys stated, “The most important thing to remember is that you can wear all the greatest clothes and all the greatest shoes, but you’ve got to have a good spirit on the inside. That’s what’s really going to make you look like you’re ready to rock the world.” While most people see fashion in a materialistic form, others see it as self-empowerment, motivation and even encouragement for themselves. You look good, you feel good!

5. Let’s all look like Lana. Lana Del Ray is an American singer- songwriter, and is gorgeous! To get her look —  long, healthy locks of hair — your secret weapon is smoothness and shine. Comb through Redken smooth Lock Stay Sleek Leave-in Cream ($17, redken.com, or at salons) then blow out your hair, curl and sleek everything over one shoulder!

Now, I know that there are a lot of new fall accessories, items and other things that are in. But it’s not always about going out and getting the new; it’s about learning to work what you’ve already got! Remember, these are some my personal favorites. Everyone has their own too! And no matter what season, trend, or style is in, nothing can be pulled off without confidence.
